UMCOR is working through ACT, Action by Churches Together, to provide famine relief to the people of Southern Sudan. Please join in this response by giving to UMCOR's International Disaster Response #982450 and designate your gift Sudan famine relief.
UMCOR staff members and consultants will be in communication with conferences affected by storms that swept across the south Thursday, May 7. Recovery efforts from earlier storms continue. An UMCOR team will be training caregivers in schools, Sunday schools and daycare centers in the Atlanta area in working with children who have been through a disaster. Rebuilding continues in Albany, Georgia; Elba, Alabama; Minnesota, Florida, Nashville, and the Birmingham area. Your gifts to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670 make it possible for people who often fall through the cracks or are the most vulnerable to rebuild their homes and lives.
There are many opportunities for volunteer work teams in the areas affected by floods and tornadoes. Call the volunteer line at (800) 918-3100 for further information. Additional teams are still needed for construction projects on Montserrat. At least one member of each team must be skilled in concrete block construction. Call (800) 675-0362, code 32 to find out more about this opportunity.
Please pray for victims of disasters, hunger, poverty, and war.
