Thank you for calling the United Methodist Committee on Relief Hotline, Friday, April 24, 1998.
United Methodists are responding in many ways to the devastating storms of the last several weeks. These storms are covered by two UMCOR Advance numbers: Domestic Disaster Response and El Niño Response.
The El Niño-related storms include the Florida tornadoes, the flooding in South Georgia, and the tornadoes in Minnesota. At the request of the conferences, UMCOR has responded with significant financial grants to Florida and Georgia. The Minnesota Conference is an active participant in interfaith recovery efforts in the communities struck by tornadoes. Please continue your support of UMCOR's El Niño Response, Advance #982328-6.
UMCOR is also responding to those affected by the severe spring storms and tornadoes in Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee and South Carolina. In many areas, rebuilding and recovery will be extensive and long-term. Please join these relief efforts by giving to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response #901670.
Volunteers have helped with clean-up in all of the affected areas and will continue to assist with rebuilding efforts. Many volunteers will be needed over the coming weeks and months. Call (800) 918-3100 for further information.
Please remember the people of North Korea today and tomorrow as we observe a Day of Fasting, Prayer and Action on behalf of people suffering from famine.
