Disaster coordinators and volunteers in the California/Pacific Conference are organizing for long-term response and recovery from the flooding. Recovery efforts continue in other parts of the United States that have been affected by this winter's severe weather: Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and the Northeast. Persons with masonry and concrete skills, general carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills are needed to construct housing for people who have been displaced by volcanic activity. UMCOR has sent a grant to the United Methodist Church of Angola for the women's landmine prosthesis program. Until now, some men, mostly soldiers, who have lost a limb to a landmine have been able to get prostheses, but no program has been available for women, who bear the burden of providing for their families.
