The response continues in conferences affected by the ice-storm in the Northeast. There are still some areas without power. Interfaith groups are being formed and trained to assess needs and work with volunteer teams if they are needed for clean-up work in the coming weeks. To respond to this disaster give to Advance #901670 and designate your gift Northeast Winter Storm. Area food banks have been depleted, and the need for non-perishable food will continue through the spring. If you are able to donate and deliver food, please call UMCOR Headquarters at (800) 554-8583 for instructions.
UMCOR has responded with emergency grants to Holston and Western North Carolina Conferences as they recover from flash flooding. To assist with these recovery efforts, please give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response #901670 and designate your gift for flood relief in either conference.
The response to the famine in North Korea continues. UMCOR's ecumenical partner, Action by Churches
Together, has issued a new appeal for famine relief. Recent medical studies indicate that all children in North
Korea are vulnerable and have suffered from prolonged food deficits. Even those who are not severely
malnourished are underweight and below normal height. ACT will be sending food aid, seeds, and basic medical
supplies. Please continue your generous gifts to UMCOR's North Korea Emergency #226435.
Please remember those affected by hunger, poverty and disasters in your prayers.
