The people of North Korea continue to suffer from famine which is compounded by a severe winter. The Korean Christian Federation has requested funds from UMCOR so that they may purchase food, heating fuel, and children's warm winter clothing from China. Please join in this ongoing response by giving to UMCOR Advance #226435-0, "North Korea Emergency." Please note that UMCOR is sending financial support only, and we cannot accept clothing.
Your gifts are urgently needed to respond to devastating flooding in India and Bangladesh. Millions of people in these and other Asian countries have suffered from recent flooding. Since this crisis has received little media coverage, please share this news with your congregation and encourage people to give to UMCOR's "Asia Floods," Advance #229650-4.
As we enter the holiday season, you can give a gift to someone in another part of the world by assembling and shipping kits to the UMCOR Depot. Health kits are especially needed. UMCOR will pay shipping costs to the Depot for all resources mailed before December 31, 2000. To find out more, call (800) 554-8583. For instructions on assembling kits, call the Depot at (800) 814-8765, or visit the UMCOR website at: http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/kits.html
Please encourage your congregation to support UMCOR's International Disaster Response, Advance #982450-8 before the end of the year. Funds from this Advance enable UMCOR to respond to disasters such as the recent typhoon and flooding in the Philippines and flooding in Haiti. The requests for assistance far exceed the available funds, yet even small UMCOR grants can make a difference in relief and recovery efforts.
Volunteers are urgently needed to help with rebuilding in North Carolina. People are still repairing and rebuilding their homes that were damaged by the flooding from Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Please call (800) 918-3100 for further information.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)
Please pray for all who suffer from violence, natural disasters, hunger, and poverty.
