The UMCOR Hotline

October 13, 2000

UMCOR has sent an initial emergency response grant to the Florida Conference for flood relief. Thousands of homes in South Florida were damaged. Also affected are migrant workers who depend on daily wages and cannot work because of flooded fields and damaged crops. This will be a long-term recovery and volunteers will be needed. Please give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, Advance #901670-1. Call (800) 918-3100 for volunteer information.

At the request of the International Red Cross, UMCOR disaster response workers will be assessing damage from Hurricane Keith in the north central area of Belize and developing plans for a rebuilding program. It will be several months before rebuilding can begin. At that time, volunteer teams will be needed. Please join in this response by giving to Hurricanes 2000, Advance #982350-4.

Your gifts are urgently needed for flood relief in Bangladesh, India, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Millions of people have lost their homes, belongings, land, crops and livestock. UMCOR is responding through our ecumenical partners. Please give to UMCOR Advance #229650-4, "Asia Floods."

UMCOR has sent a grant to the Palestinian Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem which will be used to replenish medicines and supplies. The hospital has been affected not only by the increased demand for emergency care due to the violence, but also by the presence of occupying Israeli soldiers on and near the property. Please join in this emergency response by giving to International Disaster Response, Advance #982450-8.

Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)

Please pray for all who suffer from violence, natural disasters, hunger, and poverty.
