Flooding in Vietnam. Credit: Skip Dangers/CWS. Used by permission.
Bangladesh is experiencing unprecedented flooding. Nearly three million people are affected. Millions more have suffered from flooding in other Asian countries including India, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. Lives, homes, belongings, land, crops and livestock have been lost. UMCOR is working through our ecumenical partners to provide humanitarian relief. Please give to UMCOR Advance #229650-8, "Asia Floods."
UMCOR has sent a grant to provide medicines and supplies for The Augusta Victoria Hospital, a Palestinian hospital in Jerusalem. The hospital has been affected not only by the increased demand for emergency care due to the violence, but also by the presence of occupying Israeli soldiers on and near their property. The hospital has treated more than 60 injured Palestinians even though the soldiers are restricting access to the hospital and firing on Palestinians from the hospital's perimeter. Please join in this emergency response by giving to International Disaster Response, Advance #982450-8.
United Methodists in the Florida Conference are responding to emergency needs of those affected by flooding from the storms in South Florida. The conference has sent cleaning supplies, and local churches are helping with clean-up and assessing damage. Please join in this response by giving to Domestic Disaster Response, Advance #901670-1.
Up until now, the United States has been spared significant damage from this year's hurricanes. Other countries have not been as fortunate. Belize, Nicaragua and Mexico have experienced flooding and landslides caused by Hurricane Keith. Your support of UMCOR's Hurricanes 2000, Advance #982350-4 enables UMCOR to respond immediately to requests for assistance from areas devastated by hurricanes.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)
Please pray for all who suffer from natural and human-made disasters, hunger, and poverty.
