UMCOR has sent a $25,000 grant to help provide food for famine victims in a region of Ethiopia where 90 percent of the children are malnourished. Food is critically needed to help people build up their immune systems before the malaria season begins in October and November. This is a joint effort between Christian and Jewish relief groups.    UMCOR is sending financial grants to provide assistance for survivors of three natural and civil emergencies in the Philippines: the Payatas trash pile collapse in July, three successive typhoons that passed through the island of Mindoro destroying homes and farms, and the massacre in early July which killed 22 people and left many others wounded and displaced.    An UMCOR disaster worker is traveling to Montana to help local United Methodist church leaders develop recovery plans for fire victims. UMCOR has been in communication with Wisconsin Annual Conference disaster workers who are assessing damage from the flooding and will be requesting assistance for recovery.
