The UMCOR Hotline

July 21, 2000

The Dakotas conference is using a $100,000 flood relief grant from UMCOR in a variety of ways: helping the Great Plains Food Bank replace food that was destroyed in the flood, providing a Camp Noah experience for children affected by the floods before they return to school, providing small emergency grants for flood victims, and budgeting for future unmet needs. Early response teams and other volunteers have been cleaning up dozens of flooded homes. Volunteer teams will begin repair and rebuilding work in September. Please give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670-1.

Volunteers and building materials are needed for tornado recovery work in Camilla, Georgia. In New Jersey, where they are still recovering from flooding caused by Hurricane Floyd, there is an urgent need for volunteer teams who can do rebuilding work. Please call (800) 918-3100 for more information.

The bishop of Sierra Leone has sent an urgent request to UMCOR for funds to assist children affected by the ongoing civil conflict. The United Methodist Church in Sierra Leone will provide food, shelter and protection for street children. Please join in this response by giving to UMCOR's Sierra Leone Emergency, Advance #181205-1.

Health kits are needed to replenish the supplies at the UMCOR Depot. Please call (800) 814-8765 for instructions on assembling kits. Information is also available on the UMCOR web page: http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/kits.html#Health

Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)

Please pray for all who suffer from natural and human-made disasters, hunger, and poverty.
