Rebuilding work continues in North Carolina following Hurricane Floyd which hit in 1999. Recovery is progressing but they need help - VOLUNTEERS! The North Carolina Annual Conference and UMCOR have produced a video on this flood recovery work.    The Dakotas Conference is working with persons affected by the flooding in June around Fargo. Many of the persons affected have been flooded previously. The new flooding calls for renewed efforts to assist in rebuilding and recovery. To support the flood relief and recovery efforts, please give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670-1.

   Two disaster response trainings were held last week in Texas and North Carolina. The event in Texas trained four disaster response communicators. These volunteers are equipped to share news, information and stories directly from a disaster site to keep United Methodists and the larger public informed about relief and recovery efforts. The other training taught people from the Southeastern Jurisdiction about disaster response and the relationship between UMCOR and Volunteers in Mission.

   Vulnerable children in Armenia have problems with their vision. UMCOR's Armenia staff are working to provide vision screening for 4,000 children and eyeglasses for those who need them. They estimate that 1000 of the children will need glasses. Prescription glasses in Armenia cost $6.00 per pair. This would be a good project for vacation church school or a youth group.
