UMCOR is sending a grant to the Protestant Church in East Timor to enable them to assist people as they recover from last fall's violence. The situation remains unstable; there is a shortage of food in many areas and a lack of employment opportunities. Please give to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, Advance #982450-8.
A disaster response coordinator has been appointed by the United Methodist Bishop in Mozambique to facilitate the recovery work from the floods and to assist the conference in preparing for future emergencies. Water purifiers donated by UMCOR have been airlifted to remote areas. Plans for rebuilding work are being developed. Please give to the Churchwide Appeal for Flood Recovery in Mozambique and Neighboring Countries, Advance #156500-0.
UMCOR has sent a grant to the Central Pennsylvania Conference for their work in Sierra Leone. These funds will be used to dig wells for demobilization camps. The camps are designed as a means for soldiers to make the transition back into civilian life. Many of them are teenage boys, who have no homes to return to or who are no longer welcome in their home communities. Your gifts to Advance #181205-1 will assist the people of Sierra Leone as they recover from years of war.
Please give generously to "Ethiopian Famine Relief," Advance #101250-4. Your gifts will help provide food and agricultural assistance for hundreds of thousands of people facing famine.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583.Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)
Have a joyous Easter and please pray for all who suffer from natural and human-made disasters, hunger, and poverty.
