In response to African flooding, a Churchwide Appeal for Flood
Recovery in Mozambique and Neighboring Countries has been issued.
UMCOR has already sent financial grants and 2 shipments of relief
supplies, and is working with annual conferences who have partner
relationships with The United Methodist Church in Mozambique to
implement a comprehensive relief and recovery plan. UMCOR staff
members, consultants and conference volunteers will be traveling to
Mozambique to work with the church there to assess the damage and the
needs and organize the continued response. UMCOR anticipates being
involved in flood recovery for the next three years. Please give to
UMCOR Advance #156500-0.
West Virginia experienced extensive flooding at the end of February. Seven out of nine districts in the conference were declared disaster areas. More than 1,000 homes have been flooded. At the request of the Bishop, UMCOR is sending members of the Catastrophic Disaster Response Team to help coordinate the relief efforts and train conference members in disaster response. To join in this response, give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response #901670-1.
In North Carolina, United Methodist disaster workers continue to
their extensive rebuilding efforts following the destruction caused
by flooding from Hurricane Floyd. Volunteers and funds continue to
be needed for recovery in this and other states. Please give to
Advance #982460-1, and call (800) 918-3100 to find out more about
volunteer opportunities.
