Flooding in Mozambique- 10116 Bytes

Flooding continues in Mozambique, South Africa and other Southern African countries. Mozambique was hit by a cyclone this week, which has caused even more flooding. UMCOR has sent funds to our church partners in the area which will be used to purchase tents, food, medicine and other relief items. UMCOR has also sent a shipment of medicine, water purification units, blankets, emergency food rations, and mosquito netting. A future shipment of relief supplies is being planned. Hundreds of thousands of people are homeless due to the floods. Please join in the response efforts by giving to UMCOR Advance #156500-0.

The 1997 Ottawa Mine Ban Treaty took effect one year ago on March 1, 1999. Currently 138 countries have signed the treaty, banning the use, production, transfer and stockpiling of antipersonnel landmines. The United States is not one of these. Please contact President Clinton on March 1, and urge him to sign the Treaty to Ban Landmines before he completes his term in office.
