Disaster response workers in Georgia have begun to assist with cleanup efforts following the tornadoes. A work day for volunteers is scheduled for Saturday, February 19, and more volunteers will be needed in the future. Please call the Volunteer Line (800) 918-3100. The UMCOR disaster response coordinator requests that no material resources be sent into the area, as they are already inundated with donations. Your gifts to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670-1, designated "Georgia Tornadoes" will assist those who must rebuild their homes and lives.
UMCOR has sent an emergency response grant to the Methodist Church of Indonesia to support reconciliation efforts. Christian and Muslim religious leaders are working to calm the tensions and community strife that remain following the recent riots. To support this work, please give to UMCOR's Indonesia Emergency, Advance #217400-8.
