A severe drought is affecting Central America and people in Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador are threatened with famine. Crops have been lost and hundreds of thousands of people are affected. UMCOR has sent emergency relief grants and is sending 2 containers full of ready-to-eat meals to El Salvador. People are facing hunger for the next several months or longer. UMCOR has established a special Advance for this appeal "Central America Emergency" #501300-0. Please give generously.
UMCOR has responded to a request from the Methodist Church in Indonesia for a grant to help with recovery efforts following the flash flooding and landslides in North Sumatra in early August. The church will use the funds to provide tents, rice, medical personnel and medicine, and to help rebuild homes. You may join in this response by giving to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, Advance #982450.
Your gifts are urgently needed for UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, #901670 to help with flood recovery in the West Virginia, Virginia, Holston, and Kentucky conferences and to Hurricanes 2001, #982350 for recovery from the flooding in Texas caused by Tropical Storm Allison. Thousands of homes were heavily damaged or destroyed, many of them in areas of extreme poverty. Significant financial resources will be needed to help people recover. Please give your financial support to these emergency response efforts.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583.Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)
