Hundreds of volunteers have been helping with clean-up following the devastating floods in southern West Virginia. The UMCOR Depot sent 1500 flood buckets containing cleaning supplies, and United Methodists in the area continue to reach out with material resources, helping hands, and pastoral care. Thousands of homes and other buildings will need extensive repairs or will have to be completely rebuilt. To join in relief and recovery efforts, please give to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Response, Advance #901670.
Residents of southeastern Pennsylvania have begun recovery work from the flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Allison. 2000 homes were affected by flooding or sewage backup. Clean-up work has begun and United Methodists are part of an interfaith recovery group that is developing plans for long-term recovery. To support this response as well as the recovery efforts in Texas and Louisiana, please give to UMCOR's Hurricanes 2001, Advance #982350.
Volunteers are needed to assist with clean-up, repair, and rebuilding following these floods. Volunteer teams are also needed to help rebuild homes destroyed in the earthquake in El Salvador. For more information, please call the Volunteer Line at (800) 918-3100. Also the UMCOR Depot must replenish its supply of flood buckets. For assembly and shipping instructions, call the Depot at (800) 814-8765 or visit UMCOR's Emergency Kits web page.
Earlier this month people in the Philippines were affected by both a typhoon and a volcanic eruption. UMCOR sent an emergency grant through the United Methodist Church in the Philippines to provide food, medicine, and seeds for replanting. UMCOR has also sent an emergency grant to a mission hospital in Pakistan to improve their water supply system which has been severely impacted by drought. Your ongoing support of UMCOR's International Disaster Response, Advance #982450 makes it possible for UMCOR to respond to critical needs such as these.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)
UMCOR is providing emergency relief in many areas of the world. To find out more about current UMCOR ministries, please visit http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/.
Please pray for those who suffer from hunger, poverty, natural and human-made disasters.
