UMCOR is responding to the earthquake in India and Pakistan through our ecumenical partners ACT (Action by Churches Together, the relief and development arm of the World Council of Churches) and CASA (Church’s Auxiliary for Social Action) in India. CASA and ACT continue to focus their relief efforts on villages that have received very little assistance. Relief kits, water, kitchen utensils and tarpaulins are being distributed, and feeding programs have been established.
A gift of $25.00 will provide a relief kit that contains men’s and women’s clothing, a blanket, kitchen utensils, lantern, tarpaulin, dry food rations, matches and candles. CASA will distribute 35,000 kits in the initial phase of this emergency.
Please note that all items are procured in India and UMCOR is not collecting or shipping material resources to India at this time. Please continue your generous gifts to UMCOR’s "South Asia Earthquake" Advance #274305.
The Methodist Church in El Salvador is developing plans to reconstruct housing in the wake of the earthquake. ACT has developed guidelines for these homes which will enable them to better withstand the natural disasters El Salvador is prone to. Volunteers in Mission teams will be needed in the coming months. Call the Volunteer Line at (800) 918-3100 for more information. Church members in El Salvador are committed to reaching those who would otherwise fall through the cracks and have been providing relief in areas that have been neglected by the government and larger relief organizations. Please give to UMCOR Advance #511447 "El Salvador Earthquake."
People in Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Kenya, continue to suffer from famine caused by weather and war. Your gifts to UMCOR Advance #101250 "Africa Famine Relief" will help provide immediate food relief, seeds, tools and livestock.
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)
Please pray for those who suffer from hunger, poverty, natural and human-made disasters.
