Clean up work continues in Oklahoma and Arkansas following the ice storms. In Alabama, United Methodists are part of an interfaith group that has formed to assist with recovery following the tornado. UMCOR has sent emergency response grants to provide humanitarian relief in both of these situations. You may join in these relief efforts by giving to UMCOR's Domestic Disaster Relief, Advance #901670.
UMCOR is sending grants to the United Methodist Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo which will be used to support feeding centers for malnourished and unaccompanied refugee children. Your gifts are urgently needed for this outreach work. In some areas, the United Methodist Church is the only agency providing relief for refugees and displaced persons who have fled the area's many conflicts. Please give generously to UMCOR's Advance #198400-0, "Democratic Republic of Congo Emergency."
Your gifts to the Middle East Emergency, Advance #601740 will help provide food and other necessary items for Palestinians who cannot work because of the closures. Funds are also being used to support Palestinian medical facilities and to help rebuild homes that have been damaged or destroyed by shelling in Beit Sahour and other Palestinian communities.
UMCOR has sent a grant to the Methodist Church of Mexico to support shelters for those who have been displaced by the volcano and to provide immediate assistance with food and bedding. Please join in this response by giving to UMCOR's International Disaster Response, #982450.
Recent immigration legislation has opened a window of opportunity for some refugees and immigrants. More information about this legislation and UMCOR's related activities can be found on this web page: http://gbgm-umc.org/umcor/refugees.stm
Gifts may be made through local United Methodist churches, or by calling 1-800-554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted. (Read more about how you can help UMCOR's emergency responses.)
Please pray for all who are struggling to recover from natural disasters, to overcome hunger and poverty, to rebuild after war, or to survive as refugees and displaced persons.
