UMCOR has sent an initial emergency grant to the Arkansas area to provide relief from the ice storms. The conferences are still assessing damages and needs. Food banks are critically low and many people will need assistance repairing their homes. The Oklahoma Conference is also assessing damage from the ice and snow storms. The Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference is assisting many Native American families who have been left without heat in the wake of the storm, and UMCOR is sending blankets for the conference to distribute. UMCOR is sending grants to the United Methodist Church in the Democratic Republic of Congo which will be used to support feeding centers for malnourished and unaccompanied refugee children. Your gifts are urgently needed for this outreach work. In some areas, the United Methodist Church is the only agency providing relief for refugees and displaced persons who have fled the area's many conflicts. Your gifts to the Middle East Emergency, Advance #601740 will help provide food and other necessary items for Palestinians who cannot work because of the closures. Funds are also being used to support Palestinian medical facilities and to help rebuild homes that have been damaged or destroyed by shelling in Beit Sahour and other Palestinian communities.
