Urgent Need for Volunteers

July 2001: There is an urgent, critical need for volunteers in the Houston area following the flooding caused by tropical storm Allison. 35,000 homes have been badly damaged and 100,000 people affected-- many of them elderly or persons with disabilities. Nearly 6,000 homes were damaged in the flooding in Louisiana. In Pennsylvania, 1600 dwellings have either major damage or must be destroyed. Volunteers are needed to help with clean up and tearing out sheet rock. Please call the Volunteer Hotline at (800) 918-3100 to find out about volunteering.

To help with long-term recovery efforts, please give to UMCOR's Hurricanes 2001, Advance #982350-4. Gifts may be made through local United Methodist Churches, or by calling (800) 554-8583. Credit card donations are accepted.

Please pray for all who have lost loved ones, homes and belongings in this wide-ranging storm system.
