PAKISTAN AND KASHMIR: EARTHQUAKE RECOVERY Worsening weather conditions as winter settles in the Himalayans is hampering relief efforts and heightening the urgency for aid. UMCOR is working with Action by Churches Together International partner organizations in the earthquake-affected areas. Church World Service, CASA and others continue to bring in relief supplies such as winterized tents and food. They are also providing medical care to the injured and sick. More help is needed. Please give to UMCOR Advance #232000, Pakistan Earthquake, and lend your support. UMCOR SAGER BROWN: CURRENT NEEDS The many disasters in 2005 coupled with already-existing needs has placed a great demand on UMCOR Sager Brown’s relief supplies. The depot needs more supplies to meet needs both in the US and around the world. Won’t you help? Assembling kits is a fun way to involve people of all ages. This could be a wonderful Christmas activity to make gifts for others in need. According to UMCOR Sager Brown interim director, Ted Warnock, school kits, layettes, flood buckets, sewing kits, health kits, and hand towels are in great demand. Visit the UMCOR homepage to find out more about how to assemble and ship these vital supplies. You can also give toward the purchase of these items through UMCOR Advance #901440, Material Resource Ministry. IRAQ: REBUILD AND RENEW The continuous cycle of violence in Iraq prevents the country and its people from returning to normal life. This situation has led to increased vulnerability, and humanitarian needs that have exceeded capacity of the affected communities. These communities are in need of food relief, health care, shelter, counseling and support. UMCOR has worked with ACT International partners to respond to this emergency over the last two years. Much more work is needed to rehabilitate schools and institutions as well as providing food and medicine to help Iraq’s most vulnerable people make it through this difficult period in their nation’s history. Your gifts to UMCOR Advance #623225, Iraq Emergency, will help the people of Iraq recover. US: HURRICANE RELIEF - WHERE THE MONEY GOES As of December UMCOR has received more than $24 million in donations for hurricane relief. Your generosity has allowed UMCOR to support recovery in 13 states that have either been directly affected by this year’s hurricanes or are hosting hurricane evacuees. Still, more is required to support the long term response, especially Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Please give to UMCOR Advance #982523, Hurricanes 2005. If you would like to designate your gift to a specific hurricane or region, please note this on your check.
