July 11, 2003: UMCOR continues to monitor reports coming from our sources in Liberia, where thousands remain displaced from their homes and camps. A massive recovery awaits the country. Your contributions now will help UMCOR to be ready with programs of food security, water and sanitation, medicine and psycho-social support. Please keep the Liberians in your prayers and give generously to the Liberia Emergency Advance #150300.
Northern Indiana is experiencing extensive flooding, especially around the city of Kokomo. The North Indiana Conference has requested an emergency grant from UMCOR. Damage assessment will be forthcoming. UMCOR has sent volunteers Cindy and John Weaver to work alongside conference volunteers and others. Floods have also occurred in a two county area in western Ohio. Damage assessment is being made by the West Ohio Conference. In addition, work continues after flooding in Florida. Last week UMCOR sent the Florida Annual Conference an initial grant. Your generous gift to the Domestic Disaster Response #901670 will help these neighbors in their recovery.
Bishop Grandon of the Methodist Church in Chile has organized a response to the devastating floods in the southern part of his country. UMCOR is assisting with a financial grant from the International Disaster Response Advance #982450. Please give generously to this Advance to enable our quick response to emergencies like this one.
