Youngsook C. Kang is a Korean-American woman; a mother, wife, daughter, friend and ordained minister. Both Youngsook and her husband, Jin-Ho, were born and
raised in South Korea. They came to Denver, Colorado, to attend the Iliff School of Theology. |

Rev. Kang is the Senior Pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Golden.
Youngsook has received the dual degree of master of divinity from Iliff
School of Theology and the master of social work from the University of Denver in 1991. She received her undergraduate degree from Sogang University and a master of arts in sociology from Korea University.
Her first appointment was with Wheat
Ridge United Methodist Church in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She is a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference, where she serves on the Board of Ordained Ministry, chairing the Ministerial Education Fund/Continuing Education. She also serves on the Board of
Trustees of the Iliff School of Theology.
In addition, Youngsook is a board member of the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, is involved with Korean-American Ministries as vice chairperson of the National Committee
of Korean-American Ministries, and teaches at the Iliff School of Theology as an adjunct faculty.
As a woman in ministry, Youngsook strives to be part of “God’s great wave of transformation” in people’s lives. Some of the positive experiences
related to her ministry include serving as a role model and relating to those who need to be empowered. Youngsook and Jin Ho have two teenage children, Peter and Joann.
