Hugh is a native of Waynesboro, Mississippi. He is married to the Rev. Dixie Holder-Cummings and they have two sons, Frank and Drew, and one daughter, Beth. Hugh is currently pastor in the Houston Cooperative Parish, South Houston Charge with primary responsibility for five churches and several lay speakers.

He received his BS Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Athletic Administration and Coaching. Hugh received his Master's of Divinity Degree in 1992 from the Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. While there he was the pastor of the Dixie/Hillcrest Charge in the LaGrange District of the North Georgia Conference.

Hugh is a Spiritual Director for the Cursillo and Emmaus Walk (Spiritual Retreats) in Mississippi and Wesleyan Studies Seminar Leader. Hugh's previous vocations: Master Sergeant in the US Air Force as jet mechanic and Master Instructor in Aircraft Mechanics in Texas, South Korea, South Carolina, and Mississippi. He was a sales rep for an insurance Company.

Hugh and Dixie serve as a clergy couple on the Houston Cooperative Parish, North Houston Charge of the Mississippi Conference with primary responsibility for five churches.
