Spectrum 2000 Report
Brief Description of the Spectum 2000 Project
Return to Spectrum Vision Page THE SPECTRUM 2000 REPORT is a project geared to provide a resource for the mission education and leadership development of the United Methodist Church and its ministries in a Global Theater.

The project shall seek to complete a comprehensive report of the various models of ministry available that communicate the presence of the United Methodist Church throughout the world.

In every conference and jurisdiction we have success stories that represent the true success of the Methodist work. These stories span cultural, ethnical, social, economical, racial and geographical bounds. It is the scope of this project to identify “Flagship models” of success in a variety of categories which represent the various faces of Methodism throughout our connection.

Six major uses for this project will be possible.
FIRST, by identifying successful models of ministry at the conference, jurisdictional and global levels, we can provide conference leaders, pastors and local congregations with examples of ministries that they can learn and model from to inspire mission education and leadership development in their areas.

SECOND, these flagship models can provide for local, jurisdictional, national and international academies of learning. These “flagship” churches will become the centers, resources and faculty through which learning centers for mission education and leadership development can take place from the district all the way to an international level.

THIRD, the culmination of The Spectrum 2000 Report will provide for A Global Academy of Mission Education and Leadership Development, a top-notch training event in a number of tracks for specialized ministry needs both from a missions and leadership development perspective. These tracks will be taken from each of The Spectrum 2000 Report areas. This school will allow for conference leaders, seminaries and churches to send students to learn about the very latest concepts of effective missional deployment of their resources in a given locale and for development of effective leadership to meet the ministry needs of the twenty-first century.

FOURTH, this resource will provide a tool by which the United Methodist Seminaries and other related institutions can adapt and create seminary level training and learning opportunities to provide effective praxis-based training for clergy, diaconal and lay students.

FIFTH, with the millennium approaching this resource could provide the basis of a General Conference celebration and report on the Spectrum of United Methodist Ministries throughout the world. Stories of how United Methodist’s are providing successful examples of the Christian witness throughout our connection would be the theme.

SIXTH, the finished work can become a published resource of the General Board of Global Ministries providing an effective and broad resource for mission education and leadership development in our church.
