Call to 2002
Assembly of
United Methodist Women:

Sing a New Song

United Methodist Women are called to "Sing a New Song" at the 16th Assembly Thursday-Sunday, April 25-28, 2002, in Philadelphia, Pa. The Assembly, held once every four years, is an opportunity for members of United Methodist Women to celebrate 100-plus years of commitment to mission with women, children and youth. Through drama, music, fellowship, dance, Bible study and inspirational speakers, we will be challenged to discern God’s call for our lives and mission, to celebrate our mission, and to make a commitment to continue our work as disciples of Jesus Christ through United Methodist Women.

Assembly is a global gathering of Christian women who are called to sing a new song -- a song of faith, a song of hope, a song of justice, a song of love, a song of peace.

Assembly will expand our understanding of the songs we sing and will give us greater appreciation of songs of others. It will be a time to listen and learn; to hear different voices, different languages, different musical styles and rhythms. It will also be a time to share our own songs -- those of United Methodist Women and those of women around the world. Through these songs, we will find comfort, hope, challenge, strength, healing, acceptance and renewal.

Every member of United Methodist Women can participate in Assembly through:

As we prepare for Assembly 2002, let us be mindful of the legacy of our foremothers whose songs laid the foundation for our mission with women, children and youth around the world. We are called to sing their songs anew. We are called to rekindle the gifts God has given us so we can participate in God’s mission today.

We invite you to join us in Philadelphia in April 2002, as we remember the songs of the past and write new ones for the future. Whether you attend or not, we hope you will Sing a New Song -- God’s song -- with us!
