"Our international congregation in Jerusalem continues to give witness to Christ in Jerusalem and the West Bank," write Alex and Brenda Awad, General Board of Global Ministries missionaries stationed at Bethlehem Bible College. In their summer newsletter to supporting U.S. churches, they report how ecumenical efforts of The United Methodist Church are bringing people together: "On Good Friday, we were invited by the Messianic Jewish believers for a time of worship and celebration. The service was an expression of our spiritual unity in spite of political and economic barriers. This summer our congregation, in partnership with the Nazarene and Missionary Alliance Churches, successfully completed a day camp vacation Bible school for children in Jerusalem. Over 60 boys and girls attended." With support of Global Ministries, dedication of the first public library in the West Bank took place in April. There are a special room for children and a computer lab. Plans are underway for development of a cultural center. Both the library and cultural center will be used for community purposes. Adults and children from all walks of life and religious persuasions will be able to use the services. Literacy education for adults as well as health classes will also be offered to the public. Further outreach is taking place through tours of the Bethlehem Bible College Choir (of which Alex is a member). The group is currently touring the U.S. and singing at different congregations. "The purpose is to give praise and glory to God through singing and sharing; to reflect the realities concerning the church in the Holy Land; and to help U.S. Christians gain greater understanding of the Palestinian people."
