Volunteers in Mission (VIMs) are providing vital services to improve the quality of life in Haiti, the poorest country in the northern hemisphere. Volunteer work in the region has been coordinated by missionaries Bob and Nancy Osgood through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Groups of volunteers, made up largely of local church members, form work teams that travel to areas of need and provide essential services. VIMs are United Methodists who wish to spend time sharing the gifts and talents God has given them with others. Many are retirees. In a missionary newsletter, the Osgoods report that the VIM Program in Haiti is thriving. "It has more teams than ever-- painting and repairing schools, building churches, running clinics, performing cataract surgery, and providing dental care."
The missionary couple expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported their work over the years and to every volunteer who has come to assist the people of Haiti.
