Our Nation Is Undeniably in Crisis

We are caught in an epidemic of violence that has spread across the urban, suburban, and rural landscape of America. It affects all races and economic classes, and virtually every community.

Each day the walls and gaping chasms between us grow larger. But the grace of God and the goodness of God's people still prevail in places where mission is alive and vibrant--places like:

Breaking Walls, Building Bridges looks at more than two dozen places where real mission happens with support from United Methodists through the General Board of Global Ministries. Here you will find people who offer solace and solutions to the turmoil of violence in our society, people who witness daily to God's healing grace and the empowering gospel of Jesus Christ.

You'll meet street counselors who struggle to keep peace among rival gangs in the Los Angeles area.

You'll learn about youth and police officers in inner-city Boston who are forging a partnership built on candor and trust to improve their community.

You'll witness the dedication of caring teachers, social workers, youth advocates, and counselors as they help women, men, youth, and children overcome obstacles in their lives caused by violence, poverty, addiction, and exploitation.

And you'll visit with community developers, rural chaplains, urban ministers, young adult mission volunteers, church and community workers, deaconesses, and home missionaries. You'll learn about their faith and how they work and witness against violence through challenging but rewarding ministries.
