Escuela Biblica de Vacaciones se celebró por primera vez en la costa oriental (Eastern Shore) de Virginia en el mes de julio por cinco noches con obreros agricolas Hispanos. Cada noche hubo cantos, narración de cuentos, y estudio bíblico con los adultos y otras actividades con los niños. Un grupo de mujeres Haitianas visitaron la Escuela y compartieron cantos en su idioma, reporta la Rvda. Denise Huffman.

Eight New Hispanic Ministries Missionaries were assigned this summer to four annual conferences, making a total of 18 missionaries related to the National Plan. One other missionary is still in training and without assignment, and two others are on leave. The new missionaries and their place of assignment include

  • Central Texas - Paul Santillan

  • Louisiana - Samuel Calvo

  • Oregon-Idaho - Noel Morfin,Jesús González, Eleazar Rivera

  • Pacific Northwest - Jerry Goebel and Irma and Ralph Figueroa

Rev. Ramiro Lizcano, serving in North Arkansas, was inadvertedly omitted in the published list of missionaries in the May issue of this newsletter.

El Ministerio Hispano en Baltimore ha Iogrado conseguir un lugar donde poder reunirse para orar, estudiar la Biblia, y adorar a Dios. El Rdo. Fidel Comprés informa que el primer culto de adoración se celebró este julio 16 pasado. El 11 de septiembre próximo un grupo de personas Hispanas voluntarias estarán llevando alimentos a un Hogar de Ancianos como parte de su ministerio.

Sixteen UM Hispanic students, representing five seminaries, attended the Hispanic Seminarian Summer Program held this summer in Berkeley, California. The Summer Program, administered by Dr. Justo L. González, is held in a different seminary each summer,and includes seminarians from different denominations. The seminary that sponsors the program gives full academic credit for the courses taken.

This year Rev. Joaquin Garcia and Rev. José L. Palos met the United Methodist students to orient them about the National Plan for Hispanic Ministry and discuss other issues related to theological education and conference relationships. The students outlined several specific recommendations for the General Board of Higher Education and the National Plan to consider.
