  • Congratulations to Rev. Harry Kahl for being named the first Hispanic district superintendent in the Southwest Conference. He will be serving in the McAllen district. Rev. Kahl has served as pastor, and council director in that conference, and has also served as campus minister, and chaplain of Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso. With his appointment, there will be five Hispanic superintendents outside of the Rio Grande y Puerto Rico Conferences.

  • Felicitamos a la Hna. Dorotea Lowe Bryce que continúa sirviendo como misionera laica, aunque es con la Iglesia Episcopal. Ella está afliada a al Misión San Juán en Washington, D. C., y trabaja casi exclusivamente con niños. Ella dice que sigue usando el material Metodista Unida Aventuras.

  • Congratulations to the Central Texas Conference for moving to expand to the souther part of their conference with the hiring of Mr. Paul Santillán. A recent annual conference mission initiative grant by the National Plan has enabled this conference to expand its ministry with Hispanics into the Temple District with a church development project, Project Georgetown. "We are model. ...WE know that with Paul coming and the active work of our Hispanic Committee, we will continue to grow in this area," declared Rev. Tim Russell, Director of Church and Development in that conference.

  • Felicitamos a los 14 personas que asistieron a un taller para ser capacitadores nacionales del programa de alfabetización "Listos para Leer." Este programa utiliza el periódico para enseñar a personas a leer. Las catroce personas representan 12 conferencias y cuatro jurisdicciones. Estas parsonas serán responsables por adiestrar otras personas que sirvan como tutores y maestros de personas analfabetas. El Taller fué patrocinado por la Junta General de Iglesia y Sociedad y la Oficina del Plan Nacional y tuvo lugar en Nashville los días 25 al 28 de marzo.
