Congratulations to:

• Kansas East Annual Conference for approving unanimously a Comprehensive Plan for Hispanic Ministries this past June. The Plan has recommendations for implementing Hispanic ministries at the conference, district, local church and individual levels. The Task Force worked for three years to complete this task. Now the best part begins!

Felicitaciones a dos iglesias por su aniversario:

• La Iglesia Metodista Unida Latin American de Pasadena, California, celebró su octogésimo aniversario el domingo 14 de junio pasado. El Rdo. Mardoqueo Olivas predicó en esa ocasión. El Rdo. David Achón presentó una placa de honor a la Sra. Henrietta Najar. El Rdo. Leo Hsu, superintendente distrital, y su esposa asistieron a la celebración y cena que se tuvo.
  
  
• La Iglesia Metodista Unida Emanu-EI de Dallas, Texas, celebró su septuagésimo aniversario el 17 de mayo pasado. El Rdo. Jesús Bermúdez, superintendente distrital, trajo el mensaje en el culto matutino y en el banquete. La iglesia notó en su celebración que dos de sus ex-pastores, el Rdo. Eleazar Guerra y el Rdo. Joel N. Martínez, fueron electos obispos de la Iglesia Metodista de México y de la Iglesia Metodista Unida, respectivamente. El Rdo. Eubaldo Ponce, pastor de la iglesia al tiempo de la celebración, se jubilo el junio pasado.

New Church in Mission:

"Nueva Esperanza" UMC of Rogers, Arkansas, a growing new Hispanic church in the North Arkansas Conference, is very mission-minded. The pastor, Rev. Ramiro Lizcano, reports that the congregation has 20-26 children and 5-7 youth successfully integrated with the Sunday School classes of Central UMC, in which they share facilities. The adult class has 25 adults.

Last year the church sent three persons to mission trips in Juarez, Mexico, and to Chile. The church is also joining other UMC churches in a Habitat for Humanity project. Being in mission for this new church means serving locally and abroad.

En el número de junio, se publicó que el Rdo. Franklin Guerrero había sido nombrado al Centro de Capacitación de la Jurisdicción Norcentral en Chicago. El no aceptó finalmente esta posición para aceptar el puesto de Director del Plan Hispano en la Conferencia Eastern Pennsylvania. Immigration Ministry Event Held

About 24 representatives from eleven different annual conferences attended a training event on immigration ministry, held in Washington D.C. last May 2-5. The General Board of Church and Society sponsored this event which was related to the National Plan for Hispanic Ministry.

The participants received federal legislation updates on immigration issues and other current social issues, discussed an ethic for immigrants, visited a United Methodist center/church, and were briefed about effective responses to issues affecting immigrants. The participants also had the opportunity to develop their own action plans which included networking with each other after the event.
