Girls in classroom at Lee

Faith in Action in India

by J. S. Murthy

The girls of Lee Memorial Mission Home for Girls greet their visitors with folded hands, the traditional Indian style of greeting.

Dr. J. S. Murthy continues his coverage of the Methodist Church in India by visiting the Lee Memorial Mission Home for Girls and other mission institutions in the area of Calcutta. Dr. Murthy tells the story of Ada Jones Lee and David Hiram Lee, the Methodist missionaries who founded the Lee Memorial in 1894.

Today, women who grew up in the home, attended its schools, and benefited from its mission serve there as leaders and teachers. They continue its sacred mission, serving the children of the greatly disadvantaged populations in and around Calcutta.
