Mapuche women and their weavings

In Mission in Chile

by Janet Garcia

Luis and Janet Garcia have served as missionaries in Chile since 1993. Janet describes the work of Obra Rural in southern Chile with the Mapuche American Indian group.

Mapuche women display some of their weavings.
Obra Rural Metodista encourages community development.

Obra Rural has two small rural elementary schools and an agricultural high school. Four Mapuche Methodist churches are part of this mission.

Janet also provides a centerfold poster for children, telling what a missionary is, introducing the Garcia family, and providing a map activity that compares Chile and the United States.
