The Atlantic Street Center in Seattle, Washington; Neighborhood Center in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Marcy-Newberry Center in Chicago, Illinois, have many similarities. All three were founded by Methodist Women or deaconesses to work with European immigrant populations coming to the United States about a century ago. D

All three were supported, and in some cases owned, by the Women's Division at some point in their history; some still are. All are connected to the General Board of Global Ministries today, part of the Caring Connection of institutions serviced by the Institutional Ministries unit of the Community and Institutional Ministries program area.

All three centers have after-school programs, summer programs, and programs that work with teen mothers and their children, but we have concentrated on one program for each of the centers to reflect a variety of stories and images. Although they have many similarities, each center is uniquely tailored to the needs and the neighborhoods of its environment, whether on the East Coast, West Coast, or in the Midwest. There are 102 institutions in the United States that relate to the General Board of Global Ministries as part of the Caring Connection.
