PAUL MATHERI of Nairobi, Kenya, speaks
of mothers' grief in the face of suffering of their children.
The April 12 edition of Daily Nation, a local news magazine, carried a picture of a woman on Kenyatta Avenue, one of the busiest streets in Kenya's capital city of Nairobi. The woman was pictured with her three children, two of them seated, one of them carrying the youngest. Under the portrait was a caption that ended with the words, "Many street families often wish they could receive a basic education." There are so many similar stories about street families, and stories about street children in our daily papers. Their needs range from food, shelter and health, to protection from injustice or harassment. It is mostly women who are victimized, women in the street who do not abandon their children. Most do not abandon their children except under extreme conditions, and even those still cry for the fate of their children. As I have served as a Missoner of Hope, I've received a lot of encouragement and prayers from women who are praying for my ministry with street children. From them I can still experience a mother's love. Yes, the Lord who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth is proclaiming hope for His children, hope for the whole world. He will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. Pray that the project [Naivasha Parish] will receive adequate sponsorship to implement essential programs including education, parenting and reconciliation. |
