When I first heard of the Russia Initiative in the early 1990's, I believe there were about 15 United Methodist congregations in Russia.
Bishop Minor recently made 88 appointments to United Methodist churches in Russia and the pictures of these appointments may be seen by clicking HERE!
I know of no other conference in the U.S. that can match that kind of growth record in new church development!
There is a deep hunger for the gospel of Jesus Christ in Russia, and the Russia Initiative has provided the means to help respond to this hunger.
The United Methodist Church and the General Board of Global Ministries and its leaders are to be commended for their foresight in developing the Russia Initiative when the opportunity presented itself.
Dr. Bruce Weaver was unquestionably the right person for the job to help birth this "new baby." What joy we have all experienced as we have seen this fledgling church growing and developing in these past few years.
