HEALTH CARE MISSION VOLUNTEERS

The following is what is required by the Ministry of Health in Haiti of the Eglise Methodiste d'Haiti (EMH) and thus required of VIM Health Care teams working with the EMH. Why do all this? Because, if the EMH fails to meet the Ministry of Health requirements, they could be at risk of losing their certification to operate medical services which are so vital in the communities they serve.

Health Care Mission Volunteers include:

Medical Doctors Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine Ph.D.
Psychologists Speech Therapists
Doctors of Optometry Physical Therapists
Doctors of Dentistry Dental Surgery Occupational Therapists
Nurse Practitioners Physician Assistants
Pharmacists Audiologists
Registered Dieticians Licensed Social Workers / Mental Health
Registered Nurses Licensed Practical / Vocational Nurses Paramedics
Technicians -Radiology, Laboratory, Surgical Emergency Medical Technicians

Policy:

All persons providing health care in Haiti under the auspices of the Eglise Methodiste d' Haiti (EMH) are required to do the following:



Note: Failure to register the health care team / person and provide the required documents will result in the team / person being disallowed to provide health care services under the EMH.

Procedure:

6 - 12 Months in Advance - The Team Leader / person schedules with the VIM Coordinators. The VIM Coordinator will review the team/ person's request with the Medical Director and notify the team/person of EMH confirmation of team.

4 ½ Months in Advance - The team leader / person must obtain copies of all licensed health care providers documents as follows:

*If the current license will expire prior to arrival in Haiti, send the current one with a note that the renewal will occur and that you will send the renewed license upon receipt.



4 Months in Advance (because it take 2 - 4 weeks for mail to reach Haiti) - The Team Leader / person sends copies via the following exact address: Do not address to any name nor to the EMH. This is the only VIM address using US postage for Haiti. One of the best ways to mail it using the Priority Mail envelop that costs $3.20.

3 Months in Advance - The VIM Coordinator documents receipt to team leader/ person and checks the accuracy of all information and notifies Team Leader of any discrepancies and requests corrections. The VIM Coordinator gives all documents to the Medical Director of EMH with the team information for processing at the Ministry of Health.

During the Mission - The health care provider will report to the Circuit Superintendent , the EMH physician and / or nursing personnel at the site and serve with in the designated capacity and procedures of the clinic / circuit. Referrals / follow-up care will be made as needed according to the direction of the EMH Staff.

Mission Completed - The health care team / person will compile and give a brief written report to the VIM Coordinator for the EMH Medical Director including, but not limited to the following:
