Emmanuel Barte

Emmanuel P. Barte is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church assigned to the United Methodist Mission Center in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Mr. Barte was posted to Cambodia in 2002 after his commissioning in December 2001. His wife Beverly and three young sons are with him in ministry as he shares with the people of Cambodia.

Emmanuel works with the development ministries of the Methodist Mission in Cambodia. His responsibilities include assisting with the training of Cambodian youth as they learn vocational skills. He coordinates the ‘Faith Engine Ministry’ (FEM), which incorporates auto and motorcycle mechanics, welding, and basic driving lessons. Basic English conversation and introduction to computer skills are also components of the program. Spiritual nurture through daily devotions, Bible study and counseling are intentionally integrated.

Em, as he is fondly called, has done 12 short-term trainings since 2002, and the FEM is consistently faced with the challenge of where to get financial assistance to keep the trainings available. To date there are 116 youth who have successfully completed the courses and about 50% have found jobs, ”empowered by the spiritual nourishment and skills they acquired from the program.” Emmanuel shares, "In God's mercy, God's provision came through faithful Christians who sent love gifts and support." By faith, Em is able to do the trainings two to three times a year. His most challenging experience to this point is training women as mechanics, which marks history and sets a new mindset for the role of women in the society.

Emmanuel is a native Filipino, and his early years were spent working to help support his family after completing high school. He was able to learn auto/diesel mechanic skills in a machine shop and later took a formal short-term training course. He has experience as a jeepney driver, a form of public transportation in the Philippines. Em later served as a driver for Methodist families, pastors and for the First Methodist Church in Dagupan City.

Of his time in Cambodia, Em shares, "I share with the Khmer youth the love that I have found in Christ, so that they may also realize God's love and empowerment in their lives and experience new life and hope."

Emmanuel is a member of Tebeng United Methodist Church in Dagupan City, Philippines. Em is the fourth of 7 siblings, and brother Romel is a Methodist Clergy Elder. In 1995 Emmanuel married Beverly C. Fronda, a deaconess and ordained Clergy Elder, and they have been blessed with three sons, Eusteem-Em Kayle, Emmanuel, Jr., and Vassilli Yevu.
