Jerri Savuto

Jeri and Bill Savuto are on missionary itineration in the United States for the first seven months of 2012; this service is prior to their retirement.

Jerri Savuto is a missionary with the Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, and with her husband Bill, serves at Maua Methodist Hospital, Maua, Kenya.

The Savutos previously served at Maua from 1998-2003. Jerri was a tutor in the hospital RN program and taught nursing students anatomy, physiology, nutrition, pharmacology, medical and surgical nursing, pediatrics and community health.

In January 2007 Jerri and Bill returned to Maua Methodist Hospital. Jerri is presently serving as the Quality Improvement and Staff Development Officer and is responsible for the Quality Improvement Program for the hospital. The dollar reimbursement to hospitals by the government is directly related to the quality of care the hospital provides.

Jerri said: "In 2008 the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) rebate for the hospital was increased from $24 to $30 a day, $2 from the maximum amount the hospital could receive. In 2008 Maua Methodist Hospital won the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK) award given for Best Nursing Care and Infection Control in a private or mission hospital. They competed against Nairobi Hospital and Aga Khan Hospital, which are both large, private hospitals with all services provided and priced much like the U.S. Maua Methodist Hospital charges approximately $200 for a 7-day stay. Maua is a rural hospital that serves one million people with one-third of their patients unable to pay for any of their hospital bill."

"I am in the right place at the right time and doing just what God has called me to do: helping Maua Methodist Hospital to continue to serve the one million people in our area by giving quality care and services to the glory of God."

Jerri and Bill were commissioned in 1982 and served as GBGM missionaries from 1982-1989. From 1982-1985 they served in Belize City, Belize, Central America, where she established and directed the national breast feeding organization "Breast is Best League", and under Jerri's direction breast feeding increased from 18% to 52%. From 1986-1989 they served in Jos, Nigeria, where she assisted Bill as well as doing school and rural health nursing. From 1973-74 Jerri was campus nurse at the Navajo Methodist Mission School in Farmington, NM, where she taught health courses.

From 2004 until 2006 the Savutos served as Mission-Interpreters in-Residence for the South Central Jurisdiction.

A native of Santa Fe, NM, Jerri earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX, in 1968. She received her certificate as a Healthcare Quality Professional in 1996.

Jerri and Bill are the parents of one adult daughter, Corrie Lyn, and the grandparents of Lily and Ethan. The Savutos are members of Plymouth Park UMC in Irving, TX.
