The Rev. Linda Stransky is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church, a Church and Community Worker, serving as director of new ministries development at Project Crossroads in Marion, Virginia, in the Holston Annual Conference.
Project Crossroads is an outreach ministry designed to address the basic needs of people in the Marion area, alleviate human suffering, and provide an avenue to witness the gospel of Jesus Christ. Linda believes strongly that God calls all Christians to come together as the body of Christ in order to be more effective servants to the needy and disenfranchised. To that end, she facilitates the Matthew 25 Hub, a group of persons from many denominations and agencies who work together on projects to address needs not being met. She sees the role God has given her as an "empowerer" of others to catch fire for local mission, and to help them implement their ideas.
Linda believes that God uses everything in life for good and that their life experiences have prepared her and her husband, Mark, also a Church and Community Worker, to be more compassionate and effective workers for God.
Growing up in California, Linda's journey to mission began in high school under the influence of Claremont Theological students, who served as youth pastors in her church. "They were on fire for Christ," she says, and it set a spark in her heart that would later lead her into ordained ministry. She attended San Diego State University and earned a degree in psychology, and later received her degree in Licensed Vocational Nursing from Shasta College in Redding, California.
Her call into ordination was to a second career. She attended the Methodist Theological School in Ohio, where she earned a Master of Divinity degree. She served two appointments in the California/Nevada Annual Conference and one in the Iowa Annual Conference. "The servant model of Christ has always spoken most deeply to me and since high school, Matthew 25:31-46 sends a quiver down my spine every time I read it."
The parents of three adult children and six grandchildren, Linda and husband Mark share a love of adventure and the outdoors, and enjoy camping, hiking, and fishing. Linda and Mark were married in January 1973.
