"It both scares and disgusts me how dependant some students at my school are on alcohol. They can't go to a social event, or even spend the night in the dorm, without drinking. At first, a majority of us drank. It's a weak rebellion, that's really about all."

"Some of us went broke from all of the expensive fun. Others, like myself, just got bored and found much more entertaining things to do. But some people still drink every weekend, and some weeknights, too. It is beginning to take control of their lives. It's sad watching them submit themselves to liquor. It's pathetic, too."

"My university is horrible at creating non-alcoholic activities for students to do on the weekends. That is a large part of the problem. But that doesn't account for all of it. Granted, some people at every school are going to abuse alcohol. That's a given. I feel like the drinkers are my school do more than just that, though. Some keep drinking just because they don't want to bother to come up with something better to do. It's pretty sad. "

"I attend a small community college. I am a freshman and I have had many experiences with parties with students drinking too much alcohol. I was at a party and this girl was "wasted", these frat guys were also "wasted", they proceeded to give this girl beers. She was so drunk that she started stripping in front of these frat guys. So, they all went upstairs and they were gone for two hours. And when they all finally came down stairs. The girl was in tears and she was freakin out pretty bad. The frat guys all had smiles on their faces as she walked out the door. Then after she left the party they bragged that they had all had sex with her. And how she was so bad. I couldn't believe that these guys were doing this to a girl that they didn't even know. But, I will say this. After that night. I stopped going to parties. I find that drinking doesn't make anyone cool and even if you do drink it still may not get you a boyfriend so don't use alcohol to get guys. It's not worth it.... Also after that night I was told that this girl found out that she was pregnant and she had to drop out of college to take care of the baby."

"I have never had a laundry list conversation about drinking escapades because the most drinks I've ever had in one night is 4, not enough to qualify as rip-roaring drunk, let alone blacked out. I think students do drink "too much", but I say that not because of the total volume of alcohol consumed, but the pathetic reasons most college students drink. If a student drinks 2 glasses of wine a day because she enjoys the taste or how it relaxes her, I think that 14 drinks a week is not a big deal. If a student has 7 drinks a night Friday and Saturday, she has consumed the same amount of alcohol, but probably did it to "get wasted". I don't want to make it sound like I'm making moral judgments on values. I believe that if students had something more important in their lives or a purpose outside immediate gratification (or a broader perspective so that they don't require pain-killing and unconsciousness as stress relief from all their hard work), they wouldn't drink as much."

"I think that too many college students look at drinking simply as a way to "get wasted". Especially at smaller colleges in the middle-of-nowhere, students at these colleges sometimes use the excuse of "there's nothing to do here on the weekends but get drunk." Wrong! There are always alternatives to getting drunk in order to have a good time. And NO I am not talking about bong hits!"
