The General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church has
ongoing AIDS ministry around the world, particularly in Africa where there has
been the greatest devastation and are now millions of orphaned children.
The timely appeal of bishops of The United Methodist Church for members to "make children of Africa a priority" in their giving and subsequent initiatives of Global Ministries have helped alleviate the suffering of children. The mission agency has established orphanages, distributed medicine, food and clothingand undergirded programs of the local church which guide and nurture victims of the AIDS crisis and help to raise awareness.
As we pause on World AIDS Day 2000 to lift special prayers for all who suffer and those whose lives have been impacted by this disease, we pray especially for the children children whose young faces bear years of sorrow;
children who head households and embrace one another as a family;
children in tattered clothing;
and the millions of children in need of food, shelter, spiritual guidance, and loving arms. The General Board of Global Ministries expresses gratitude to all who have
contributed to efforts of the United Methodist Church in its AIDS ministry and urge
continued support through your gifts and prayers.
