NOTE: See also United Methodists send young adults across globe.NEW YORK (UMNS) -- Three teams of Global Justice Volunteers will be dispatched by the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries in 2000. The program, now moving out of its pilot phase, offers young adults aged 18 to 25 years a short-term experience through social justice work in communities around the globe.
U.S. volunteers must be high school graduates with at least one year of work or college. International applicants also are welcome. Participants must make a commitment to live and work in grassroots communities for a period of two to six months; show respect for and a willingness to live among people of different faiths, cultures and traditions; and be fully involved in the experience of linking faith and justice.
Applications are accepted at any time. Deadlines for specific terms in 2000 are Feb. 15 for the May 14-Aug. 1 term; March 15 for the June 11-Aug. 29 term and June 30 for the Sept. 11-Dec. 14 term.
