[During June and July, 1998, the General Board of Global Ministries led a group of 21 students from United Methodist-related colleges and universities in singing global choral music in the Baltic States and Russia. The participants wrote statements commenting on their experiences. Following is one such statement.] The lesson I take home from the mission tour comes from a passage in Proverbs 2:1-6, "If you call out... if you look for it. . and search for it... then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.... "
All my life, I had not sought out God or his truth with my own heart but simply accepted what I was spoon-fed. I now have a new quest to seek the Lord and search for his truth myself. The Gospel, I have come to realize, is not a neat set of facts that I can read about in a book or hear in a sermon tape. It can only be spoken by the Lord and it can only be heard by my heart. And until I hear it clearly, I must seek it. |
