[During June and July, 1998, the General Board of Global Ministries led a group of 21 students from United Methodist-related colleges and universities in singing global choral music in the Baltic States and Russia. The participants wrote statements commenting on their experiences. Following is one such statement.]
Meeting David and Kristin Markay and their children showed me that serving as a missionary for the church does not mean sacrificing your family. I saw in David many things I want to become. |

Before this trip, I don't think I fully appreciated what our church
stands for. It took a six-week experience of sharing faith as a United
Methodist and witnessing what God has done in churches in the Baltics
for me to come to this understanding. . . .
