What is a refugee you might ask? For me, it means I had to leave my country, my village, all my clothes, and even the one rag doll I had. My mom and I and my aunt and her two sons–they are 12 and 14–all left home one night.

We traveled a long way and finally we came to the country of the United States. Mom said we would be safe there. My aunt was especially glad because she had feared that her sons would be taken away from her like my dad and uncle were. The men said they were needed to fight a war. I haven’t seen my dad since.
