A Medicine Box® consists of 18 essential items needed in a hospital or clinic to care for basic needs of patients. It has two parts:

Churches and service organizations contribute partial quantities of the essential items, in the form of a Kit of over-the-counter products and supplies. American pharmaceutical companies are expected to provide numerous medications needed for the Medicine Box through donations or discounted pricing. These contributions will supplement their regular donation program to Interchurch Medical Assistance (I.M.A.). I.M.A. will obtain the remaining quantities of products needed to complete the Medicine Box, using the funds contributed by churches and service organizations.

One Medicine Box will enable a hospital or clinic to respond to common illnesses in a population of approximately 1,000 adults and children for a three-month period of time, or to a special medical emergency need.
