The year 2001 marked the twentieth anniversary of the Center for Disease Control's (CDC) report about clinical evidence of a new disease, now known as AIDS. The following timeline focuses on events related to The United Methodist Church (UMC) but also includes events related the U.S.A., world, and other religious organizations.
The General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) has been responding to the AIDS crisis since the early 1980s. Learn more about our current programs.
