As we remember the events of September 11, 2001 we ask God to guide us toward a brighter future filled with love, peace, justice, and hope. The world changed as the result of the events of one day; however God's love for us did not change. Christ's call for us to love God, our neighbors, and ourselves did not change.

arrow icon. New Phase of Prayer Life Discovered
Wendy Whiteside

I have been a faithful United Methodist all my life. Although no one can claim perfection in the practice of one’s faith, I have tried very hard my whole life to be faithful to Christ’s teachings. So when the first plane crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001, I began a new phase of my prayer life. I cried out to God in much the same way as the psalmist. And my cries grew more urgent as the day progressed.

James Law, Rockland County volunteer fire fighter (circa 1980's) No one could have been one hundred percent prepared for ministering to the people around the World Trade Center on September 11 and the days and weeks that followed. But perhaps one United Methodist pastor, Dr. James Law, was uniquely qualified. As a young man in Hong Kong, he was trained as an emergency medical technician (EMT) and more recently was a volunteer fire fighter. "When I came to California," he said with a big smile, "my mission turned from saving lives to saving souls."
